Azerbaijan Airlines is also commonly known as AZAL the flag carrier and the largest airline in Azerbaijan. Headquartered in Baku, it was founded in 1992 and was the first national airline established after its independence. It operates to destinations across Asia, Europe, USA.
Travel Class
Azerbaijan Airlines has four travel options:
Economy: The passengers are allowed to carry one hand baggage and one check-in luggage. The fare options includes a hot meal option and rescheduling and refund of the ticket is available before the flight’s departure inclusive of the penalty charges. Passengers are offered a refreshing towel before every meal and for flights longer than 4 hours, a self service bar with light snacks and drinks are also available. Entertaining games, soft toys and eye masks for children are also provided for flights more than 7 hours.
Business Class: The passengers are allowed to carry two hand baggage and two check-in luggage with an extra baggage allowance. With access to the Business Class lounge at the airports, the passengers can also avail priority check-in and boarding. The business class seats provide for more personal space with comfortable reclining seats and extra leg room. Passengers can refresh themselves and dine with the various meals, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. Special meals can also be availed and booked 20 hours prior to the flight. The passengers can relax and browse through various publications, music, movies and children can be engaged with entertaining games and soft toys.
Comfort Club: The passengers are allowed to carry two hand baggage and two check-in luggage of 32kgs with an extra baggage allowance. With access to the Business Class lounge at the airports, the passengers can also avail priority check-in and boarding. The Comfort club seats provide for more personal space with comfortable reclining seats and extra leg room. Passengers can refresh themselves and dine with the various meals, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. Special meals can also be availed and booked 20 hours prior to the flight. The passengers can relax and browse through various publications, music, movies through their in-seat entertainment on the touch display and children can be engaged with entertaining games and soft toys. Toiletries and amenity kits are provided for long haul flights for more than 7 hours along with special gifts for children.
VIP Club: The passengers are allowed to carry two hand baggage and three check-in luggage of 32kgs each with an extra baggage allowance. With access to the Business Class lounge at the airports, the passengers can also avail priority check-in and boarding. The VIP Club seats provide for more personal space with exclusive reclining flat beds with extra leg room and in-seat power supply for laptops and other electronic devices. Passengers can refresh themselves and dine with the various meals, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. Special meals can also be availed and booked 20 hours prior to the flight. The passengers can relax and browse through various publications, music, movies through their in-seat entertainment on the touch display and children can be engaged with entertaining games and soft toys. Toiletries and amenity kits are provided for long haul flights for more than 7 hours along with special gifts for children.
Frequent Flyer Program
AZAL-Miles is the frequent flyer program for Azerbaijan Airlines. Members can earn mileage points by flying with the airline. These points can be redeemed for award tickets, award upgrade, value-added services. The mileage points can also be earned with the nation- airline partners in Hotels, Banks, Telecommunications, Car Rentals, Travel agencies etc. The points can also be used to gift flight tickets to loved ones. There are three levels of membership- Classic, Gold and Platinum.
Baggage allowance
Passengers are allowed to carry hand baggage which can weigh up to 10 kgs and the check-in bag can weigh up to 23 kg Economy Class.
Business Class ticket allows passengers to carry two hand baggage weighing upto 10kg each and two check-in luggage of 32kg each.
Comfort Club passengers can carry two hand luggage of 10kg each and two check-in luggage of 32kg each.
VIP club passengers can carry two hand luggage of 10kg each and three check-in luggage of 32kg each.

Azerbaijan Airlines provides for exquisite delicacies, snacks, meals along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Passengers can pre-book their meals or purchase it on board the flight and choose from special food categories, vegetarian meals, dietary meals, ethnic meals along with special requests. The airlines provide for a wide range of entertainment and leisure activities through the numerous movies, shows, music and games available on board.
Refund and Cancellation
Passengers can cancel their booking either through Azerbaijan Airlines’s sales ’ offices or website. All cancellations are subject to a cancellation fee.
In December 2016 AZAL launched their own low cost carrier called Buta Airways. All Buta Airways flights carry the same two letter identifier as Azerbaijan Airlines (J2). Whilst Buta Airways is considered a low cost carrier they do offer free sandwiches and water onboard for all customers.
